I think you’ll agree, life’s too short for stressing out, uncomfortable underwear, and bad wine.
It’s also too short for negative behaviour and limiting beliefs about yourself. I’ve worked with so many beautiful people, with a shining light inside them, that they just can’t see. Because since before they can remember, they’ve had a less than positive belief about themselves. The crazy thing is, it’s not even their opinion, it’s a product of their environment, or from parents and peers when they were first forming their identity. Probably before the age of 8 years old. Pre 6 years old we are in a hypnotic state, absorbing and learning from everything around us. Our imagination blends with our reality. It’s hard to distinguish where one starts and the other one ends.
I love conversations with pre schoolers. They say the funniest things and have their own words that are logical to them. My oldest son used to call animals different names. One that stuck in our heads was a Rhino was called a Rhinonosserusus. He couldn’t just say Rhinoceros, that just wasn’t the right word to him. He’d also say when going past a grave yard, “is that where the dead people live”.
My middle son was very anxious about leaving the house sometimes, especially to somewhere he didn’t know. One day he said had a friend that no one could see but him. So the imaginary friend was born. He apparently had lots of confidence and stayed with him to make him feel better. A little like the Charlie and Lola books, when Lola was nervous about going to school and Soren Lorensen stayed with her all day.
We all need a helping hand to feel better sometimes, we don’t always get it right. We don’t always know how to be. New situations arise and new challenges present themselves.
But I do know, life’s too short to sweat the little things. Enjoy yourself, laugh often, love strongly and deeply.
Only worry about the really big stuff, like good wine and comfortable pants 🙂
