Do simple acts of kindness – it’s good for your health
Doing random acts of kindness, without wanting anything in return, is actually good for you.
I was at the sushi counter on Mother’s day a few months ago. A woman and her children were next to me buying a few rolls, picking out what all her family wanted. She went to pay by card, but at that time the shop only accepted cash. She searched her purse for money, but was a little short. I could see her assessing which roll to put back, probably hers, so I leaned over and asked how much she needed. She said $2. So I handed it to her. She said, oh no you don’t have to do that, I’ll put one back. I said, honestly it’s no bother, enjoy your sushi and pass it on. She thanked me and we went our separate ways.
Now that was my random act of kindness that day. I wasn’t planning on handing over money to a stranger, but it had such a positive affect on how I felt in myself. It was the happy look on her face and being fortunate enough to have money in my purse that I could do that. Now I know, having the desired amount of sushi rolls for lunch, isn’t going to save the world, but I trust she went on to enjoy her mother’s day and be extra kind to her children that lunch time, gave money to someone else in need the next day, be it someone with out a home or money to charity, or just smiled and gave of positive energy to people around her.
When we do something without needing anything in return, but a simple acknowledgement or thank you, we’re giving back. You’re actually raising your positive vibrations and making a difference.
You do need to be aware of the people that “expect” you to do things for them without giving anything back. These people will drain your positive light.
There does need to be some form of energy exchange. I have done massages, healing sessions and stress management coaching for people that can’t pay me with money. I have said, I will give you my time, but there does need to be an exchange for the treatment to work. This works both ways, they are giving back also. One young man brought me something special from his garden and a sticker for my car. Another offered to do gardening, someone else some ironing. The thought and promise in those gifts was adequate for the healing exchange to happen. Now I can’t live on these alone, money is also an energy exchange. In fact if you see money as energy, not owning it, but using it positively and letting it flow, you will attract more to your life. The law of attraction, comes to mind here.
Acts of kindness, especially random, gives you a surge of endorphins.
Your positive feel good hormones, get a boost and it instantly makes you feel better. When done daily, it will change your mind and create positive thought patterns to your feel good emotions. Done over and over, it becomes your way of being. It will have a positive affect your children, so they become givers, their friends, their families and then onto the next generation.
I also have a policy to smile at least three people I don’t know each day. Sometimes they smile back, other times they look behind them to see if the smile is directed elsewhere. When they realise it’s to them, it’s rewarding to see their face soften. You don’t know what anyone else is going through in the life or even their day. Spreading positivity and joy to others is a world I want to live in and it starts with one person at a time, you.
Spread positive joy this holiday season, give for the pleasure of giving, and be gracious when receiving, even if it is socks again 🙂
Have a fantastic time.
Warm hugs
